HiBack properly using this site again so I better update. Been busy all year, which is  a good thing. I'm a proper working animator now, which I thought I'd never be able to say.  Most of the work I've been submitting this last year have either been blog entries or life drawing stuff. That will continue but I also plan to do more stuff for one of my own projects. Conall in particular, which now has a writer for the first time trying to flesh out the characters, make new ones and write some stories.  I always said I'm not a writer so this is a godsend. :D

Dr. Sketchys

4 min read

It's been a while since I've updated this thing so I thought I'd better update.  Alot has changed since my last journal, ie regretably I'm not working fulltime at the moment which I'm not comfortable with.  I'm going to be sticking my neck out for more work in the coming months to try and sort that out.
In the meantime I've been working on an album cover from home and refreshing the portfolio with lifedrawings over the past year.  I'd missed it since I finished college and so back in May I got back into it and I haven't stopped since.  It's mainly due to the Dr. Sketchys events I go to once a month in Dublin.  It's a lifedrawing class with a difference.  Each class has two models, but they're not just any models, they're burlesque/cabaret performers modelling.  They dress up to a theme each class and because they are from a performing background, they put a lot of character into their modelling.  So far there has been 6 classes and the themes have been; zombie, gender-bender, sweets, Madmen, 80s Hair Metal, and Tim Burton.  The next one will be the last of the year and it will naturally be a Christmas special, so if you think you will be around Dublin on the last Saturday in November and of course you're interested, than get onto the their website at www.drsketchysdublin.com and buy your ticket.  People who book online get first preference on seating so be well adviced.  As you can see in my gallery lately, I've been coming away with alot of images from those classes.  I've pretty much replaced all my old lifedrawings.  Apart form that, it's a really good atmosphere in these classes. They play music related to each theme and there are small prizes for the best drawings thoughout and the models and presenter are always full of humour, so it is always fun (even if you're drawings not the best).  Artists with less draw experience or not so confident should not be discouraged, because this event caters for artists of a levels and you may find yourself quickly improving if you make a habit of going to it like I have.  I do come acorss like I'm really promoting this as if I'm organizing it myself, but they having encouraging regulars to put the word out and this kind of lifedrawing deserves a wide fanbase.

One more thing.  I will be competing in a Triathlon in aid of Barretstown Charity for children with Cancer.  If you would like to help you can donate to through this link,  www.mycharity.ie/event/sanovit…

Working

I am currently an employed member of society, yippee!  I've been waiting a while for some thing to come along so it's good times for me.  I'm also doing alot of random projects projects, bits of animation and character designs that I don't over think for once.  That way I get alot more done and I also get alot more variety.  Robin Hood Tax and St Paddys Day are some examples of that and I have some more stuff in the pipeline.  I was getting too hung up on my big projects and just getting into a creative block because of it.  It helps to go off on tangents cause it sometimes contributes back to those big projects I've stuck on.  Anyway check out the new stuff. Robin Hood tax may have a problem with its thumbnail, I don't know what other people are seeing, but the imasge in preview is fine.

Jaysus, it's been ages since I've updated this thing.  Sure what's the point if you have know real news.  I hate talking crap about myself on my work if there is nothing worth saying.  I did have fun watching the Oscars on Sunday (or really Monday morning).  I watched it in a theatre with some of the animators for Secret of Kells.  I only knew a tiny handful of who was there, but it was great to be part of the experience.  I had been following the making of that filming ever since I did ink & paint for some of the animation of their first draft promo.  It's great see something like that progress to what it's become.  The Oscar nomination has boosted their profile so much, it's going to contribute massively to their future projects.
For me personally, currently unemployed, I'm feeling a bit more inspired for my Conall project and I'm drawing loads.  Who knows where this moment of inspiration will take me, all I know is that I'm drawing again.  I'm also going to animate something for St. Patricks Day.

Yes it is official.  I received a certificate in the post today stating that Keaneye Studios is officially registered as my company name.  That only took me 16years to do, since I came up with it with my aunt when I was 12. Ah sure it was only yesterday.
Anyway, that means I can openly use that name on the internet without the fear of someone else using it.  It is legally mine, all mine! I will now attach the name to anything I do.
